Watch Cho Mouth

Tired of hearing all of the negative comments people leave on innocent videos on YouTube? You might be in luck.  How this is going to work I’ve yet to see.  Here’s the skinny.

YouTubers  who post offensive comments without any real reason will be asked “politely” to identify themselves using their Google+ account name when leaving comments.  It’s all in an effort to clean up the video site with comments from people that just like to leave mean and crude comments.   It’s entirely opt-in which says to me that it ain’t going to work.  But you can’t blame YouTube for trying.  I commend them for that.  Unfortunately, in this litigious society that we live in,  we have to find ways to stop matters before they come to matters.  Google is also wanting to update and consolidate their privacy policies as evident in their recent change to their ToS.

Do you think it will really matter? Do you think that Google is going in the right direction? Do you feel that this will ever change people from leaving bad comments? Or is this just good PR?

I tell you what, you can say whatever you want about this post and I’ll let it stay on my website. No. Really. :^)

    • Agreed!! More importantly, why do people think they need to leave crass and uncalled for messages to someone they don’t even know? They hide behind their keyboard. I honestly think that IP addresses show be shown (in full disclosure, I have them recorded on my blog) We hear so much about bullying and kids committing suicide it seems that Google/YouTube is trying to go in the right direction, but its really not enough that it will ever make a difference. They need to take it to the next level.

      • I completely agree, Mitch. With some accountability maybe these folks would think twice about posting such things. I know there isn’t a fool proof way to deal with this, but these people should be held accountable for their words. There is no reason to leave a crass, nasty remark on any video…

      • Good start, more needed!!!
MAMA ALWAYS SAID, IF YOU DON’T HAVE ANYTHING NICE TO SAY, THEN BE QUIET!!!! There is no reason to be mean, WE NEED MORE LOVE NOT HATE!!!!

      • Like Paula reminded me when we discussing the subject of bullies in our society today it is not that people of authority (principle, teacher, parents, bosses, companies) aren’t doing anything about it but the bullies have followers that idoliize the said bully or bullies so they not only will take the fall or blame so the actual offendee goes free. Not to mention they do the bulllying in such A underhanded and sneaky way it is hard to catch them. With the internet texts of today knowing the name of the person is only the begining but it is astep in the right direction.
